SAN DIEGO, A FERRY CRUSHES INTO THE DOCK

 Leggi l’articolo in italiano

A Belgian tourist filmed a whale-watching ferry entering into the harbour of San Diego and he probably couldn’t image such a scene. The ferry literally crushed into the dock because of  – the crew reports – a mechanical breakdown, maybe involving the inverter which has impeded to stop.

The ferry carried 144 passengers, seven of which suffered some minor injures, and, as you can see in the video below, there were lots of people on the dock but they all were able to escape in time. The ship, on the contrary, was seriously damaged. According to the video, the captain stopped the ship’s engines and he warned the people on the dock with the horn.

The ferry’s name, Hornblower, lets us remind another story.

That one of Horatio Hornblower, a character in the romances by Cecil Scott Forester who, like the more famous Jack Aubrrey by Patricl O’Brian, is inspired by the British admiral Thomas Cochren, starred by Gregory Peck in the film sharing the same name. Something glorious exists, at least.
