Absolute 52 FLY strikes Miami Boat Show bull’s eye

Absolute 52 FLY: luxurious livability within limited dimensions.

Drawing rousing applause at her Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show (DBMIBS) world premiere, Absolute 52 FLY struck the bull’s eye with great accuracy advancing its design objectives incorporating a wealth of luxurious livability features within the limited dimensions of its smallest 52 feet Absolute Direction, Generation 2023 positioned to the left of the 56 FLY and 60 FLY.

The Italian shipyard’s press release announcing the latest edition to its flybridge lineup told us, “The 52 FLY, a paragon of technology, design and performance, is the perfect expression of Absolute’s direction, exploring new routes and navigating to the next level of comfort.” Given this testimonial, along with the fact the 52 FLY was on Florida waters for her highly anticipated global debut… as if filming a scene from Miami Vice, my harmonious first encounter became more of a stealth marine mission to uncover these trend-setting attributes and big boat attitude announced in the bulletin.

Absolute 52 Fly Technology

Flourishing examples of technology didn’t take much vice squad detective work to seek out. Lauded for its initiatives embracing eco-conscious solutions with gusto, natural ventilation swirls through the main cabin due to the electrically-operated, vertically sliding windows which actually allow the air-conditioning unit to be completely switched off, if so desired. Topping that, “literally,” the flybridge above features the optional addition of solar panels integrated into the hardtop, which in turn, provide sufficient energy to power up entertainment apparatuses, as well as the fridges and freezers – all of which, when combined, result in jovial, generator-free days away from the quays.

Performance

Tying technology together with performance, but still keeping the focus on seaside serenity next, I was most interested to learn about the engine room soundproofing. And for this, no one could give a more concise explanation than CCO Cesare Mastroianni, as he notes, “The engine room was constructed with multiple slices of foams and plastics. The process is similar to preparing lasagna when you continually apply layer after layer to build up a thick base.” It’s safe to say, the end result is just as delish as the Italian specialty and with a lot less calories… here your healthy reward is a hushed state of mind, free from the rumblings of the twin 590-hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800s.

Absolute 52 Fly: design

In third place, we reflect on another ingredient, it’s not pasta-related but rather, the next-generation of compelling and profoundly functional exteriorized design elements. Experiencing this stylistic buzz word firsthand, “next-gen” shows itself from the flybridge down to the lower aft deck via game-changing modular sofas and tables. The Podenzano-based builder was spot on when choosing the “Direction” descriptor considering that, the flexible furnishings offered in these outdoor relaxation zones let you be the director molding them in any way you deem fit.

Stepping inside, the design kudos continue into the copious 50-square feet full-beam master walk-around suite, yet must also be awarded to the voluminous  VIP cabin midships and third guest cabin equipped with an electrical system to facilitate transitioning from twin beds to a double berth. But with Absolute, of course there is always a surprise! What makes the 52 FLY truly stand out is the apportioned storage found under the twin berth. This handy addition is a unique feature belonging only to her and cannot be incorporated on the bigger FLY family members due to mechanical components filling that space.

Saving the best for last, now come out from under the bed and gaze overhead at the new circular-shaped ceiling lights on the main deck and flybridge. Even in the middle of the day surrounded by Miami’s bright sunlight, the illuminated fixtures catch your eye.

Between the masterfully crafted round lighting motifs and the glowing natural rays beaming in from the window glazing, no matter where you’re looking –  Absolute Yachts certainly veered in the right “Direction” with the 52 FLY and it’s sure to become as big a hit as Miami Vice.
