Polytechno Engineering has always been attentive to safety on board vessels and the safeguarding of human life in the event of fire. Here is AerPro Marine
AerPro Marine is the aerosol extinguishing system by Polytechno Engineering, especially designed by this well-known company with headquarters in Vigevano for those who wish to sail in complete safety in the event of a fire without causing damage or undesirable effects to the boat. A highly efficient, all-Italian product, AerPro Marine uses potassium condensed salts for extinguishing and can be installed to replace the fire extinguishing system already fitted to the boat. The danger of fire and smoke are the worst nightmares of boat owners and captains, in consideration of the amount of flammable material that can be found on board.
How does AerPro Marine work?
AerPro Marine uses potassium condensed salts for extinguishing and can be installed to replace the fire extinguishing system already fitted to the boat. AerPro Marine uses the active principle of extinguishing agents that are no-toxic, unlike CO₂, Novec and FM200 molecules. The extreme efficiency of AerPro Marine is confirmed by a further forty certificates, the validity of which is global, guaranteeing that the system can be installed anywhere on the boat, even where live systems are present and where very sensitive equipment is usually housed, without forgetting the effective defence of AerPro Marine, which safeguards all equipment on board and boasts American EPA certification.
AerPro Marine is “clean agent”
The protection of life and the vessel are two prerogatives to which the company has succeeded to respond. Further conformation of the company’s excellent reputation, which Polytechno Engineering has been able to earn in over forty years of activity, is provided by a portfolio of highly respected clients, including national and international companies in the telecommunications, energy, credit and IT sectors, as well as in the health, electrical and mechanical plant engineering sectors, and of course in the commercial and pleasure boating and rail transport sectors, but also in fundamental sectors such as logistics and defence.
Long-standing know-how and no concerns
“It was relatively easy for us to move from producing systems for large-sized boats to producing systems for small-sized ones – says Andrea Claudio Azzolini, CEO of Polytechno Engineering and passionate sailor – Our fire extinguishing systems were initially designed for large boats, then we adapted them to boats of less than 24 meters, adding various subsystems to our already large product range”. Replacing the boat’s existing fire-fighting system with AerPro Marine means having no worries in the unfortunate event that the traditional system should go off and irreparably damage the interior of the sailing boat, precisely because compared to gas systems, AerPro Marine is non-staining and fully electronic.
AerPro installation
It is extremely easy to install, it is a completely electronic system, and there is no need for pipes, cylinders and nozzles as with traditional fire extinguishing systems, which are difficult to install on small and medium-sized boats. What makes AerPro Marine so easy to install and consequently aesthetically unobtrusive? Study, research, technology and chemistry, simply chemistry. The system involves the use of aerosol generating units, electrically activated by a module that can be powered by the boat or even by a battery. In the event of a fire, the system, which can be manually and/or automatically activated, triggers a chemical reaction between carbonate and potassium nitrate of the solid compound inside the aerosol generator. “In a process similar to sublimation, the aerosol salts are transformed into a very fine particulate, a dense white vapour, which, on contact with the flames, triggers a chemical reaction between the potassium and the oxygen free radicals, causing an immediate drop in temperature just at the point of the fire. The flame is extinguished in a few seconds without changing the normal oxygen content of the air.”
In the event of activation, replacing a spent AerPro Marine aerosol generator is really easy, as you only need two bolts to screw it in and an electrical connector. If you have space, you can keep a spare pair in the hold for replacement without having to return to port. On smaller sailing yachts, the AerPro Marine system can be used in automatic mode by positioning temperature sensors, smoke detectors or temperature sensitive cables, or alternatively it can be activated manually. AerPro Marine is a versatile system, suitable for large volumes as well as for the hatchway and engine compartment of sailing yachts. The size of the largest model is 30x30x30, so it occupies very little space, and can also be easily adapted to smaller technical compartments. A further plus point is the fifteen-year lifetime guarantee – AerPro Marine does not even have to undergo complex maintenance procedures.
