AMERICA’S CUP, SHOW AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS IN NEW YORK. EVERYBODY (AT THE MOMENT) BEHIND THE KIWI

And, in the end, among fog, too weak or too strong wind, gusts funnelling in the skyscrapers of Manhattan, Team New Zealand have got the better in the New York stop of the Louis Vuitton Cup. The kiwi boat,  with the lowest budget in this 35th edition of the Cup, has lines up the others behing it, despite some problems during the last two races.

There’s a great talent in the team headed by Glenn Ashby but there is also a decent dose of good luck in this victory. “A damned lottery”, as defined by Leigh McMillan, the second skipper of Team Land Rover Bar, the “sparring partner” of Ban Ainsle and the winner of two Olympic medals and two races in the Extreme Sailing Series. “We can’t fail to congratulate Glen’s guys but this race, although it was the most charming one among the five regattas competed until now, was also the craziest and the most technically unstable one”.

It’s true. Suffice to say that on the second day, when teams competed for three trials, wind jumped continously from 5 to 20 knots and stream has reached 5 knots. In the end, Team Emirates – including our Max Sirena – closed with 52 scores, followed by Team Oracle (50 scores), Groupama Team France (44), SoftBank Team Japan (42), Land Rover Bar (42) and Artemis Racing (40).

In the general rank, after six races and still three ones to compete, Kiwi take the lead with 8 scores on Oracle and 17 scores on Team Bar. For the victory of Louis Vuitton Saiing Series, we imagine a three-way cage match. Behind, the Japanese, Swedish and French teams.

The next stops will be Chicago, Porstmouth, Tolone and Japan, just confirmed for next November.
