50 metres long, with huge spaces inside and outside (340 square metres), carbon anywhere, a big glass superstructure to give a lot of light inside. BackCat will be the biggest catamaran completely made of carbon in the world. It will reach 30 knots with great comfort and safety. It will be a megayacht tailored to each shipowner in all its details.
The founder of BlackCat brand is the Australian Mitch Booth, a sailor who won two Olympic medals and who took part to the American Cup and many other World Cups. The project is by the English designer Malcolm McKeon, who designed over 200 boats, among which 50 models of over 30 metres.
Among megayachts, that one of catamarans is a world almost unexplorated, despite the advantages a sailing catamaran can offer: from huge spaces to the comfort of a never-swerved navigation, from high speed to reduced draughts which reduce the limits of megayachts in terms of moorings.
<<The concept of this “supercat” – declares Mitch Booth – is incredible because anything else can guarantee such big stable spaces and excellent performances. I’ m sure: the natural development of superyachts will be catamarans>>.
<< The interest for catamarans is increasing – says Malcom McKeon – maybe thanks to the American Cup which hase increased research and development in carbon high-performance supercats. I’m honoured to work to this new BlackCat’s project>>.
