A very particular and little vintage travel proposal made by an American shipping company, called French America Line, which will propose some cruises along the most important rivers of Southern USA from next summer onwards. The queen of the fleet will be the ex Columbia Queen, which will be named Louisiane after restoration which will convert it into a luxurious vessel. Louisiane will have a crew made up of over 60 members and it will host 150 hosts. Fron next August on, it will start to sail along the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennesee, Cumberland and Red rivers until the coastal waters of the Gulf.
The aim is to recover, in the atmosphere at least if not in substance, the traditional navigation along South American rivers and inner waters. Louisiane will be a luxurious ship ( even though prices haven’t been disclosed yet, we can’t think they will be cheap) but completely inspired to Mississippi’s French atmospheres: from kitchen furniture and jazz music, like in “the worst” clubs of New Orleans, to the tables where hosts will play cards while tasting a good whiskey. Itineraries, of course, are properly conceived: in a minimum of five and a maximum of ten days, the travel will touch the most famous cities of Southern USA, from St. Louis to New Orleans and Memphis.
Louisiane was born in 2000 with the name of Columbia Queen: with a length of 218 feet and a width of 66 feet, it was built from a casino ship hull and it sailed until 2008,when the company which had built it went bankrupt. The new company bought it at the beginning of the current year and it decided to restore it in Portland, Oregon. From there, Louisiane will be carried on the Mississippi river on a semi-submersible platform.
