BRUCKMANN 42:THE ART OF DAY-SAILING

Photo by Onne Van der Wal

Bruckmann Daysailer 42 is a really beautiful boat which comes from Canada. But, don’t get confused while seeing these pictures since, despite her vintage lines, the boat is not made of wood but her modern construction uses E fiberglass, vinylester resins and Core-Cell sandwich core.

The lines are the classic ones of American East Coast designed by Doug Zurm and his Zurn Yacht Design Studio, seated in Marblehead (Massachusetts), born in 1993 and author of over 350 projects of both sailing and motor boats (such as  Marlow Yachts, MJM, Bruckmann, Shelter Island Runabout, Vanquish, Marblehead and many others).

Lines are elegant, with a reverse stern, pronounced sheer and wale, very thin volumes: between overall length and waterline beam there’s a difference of almost 3 metres on a total length of little less than 13 m.  Seductive (at least according to us) the oval cut of the cockpit which closes on the stern with a large stainless steel wheel.
The sail area (83 square metres if you sail close to the wind) is enough if compared to a displacement of 7900 kg, 47% of which are concentrated on the keel. As usual for Doug Zurm, performances are great, without never renouncing comfort.

Long and narrow, Bruckmann Daysailer 42 is specifically designed for short cruises along the Atlantic coasts and the inner waters of Northern America. Passengers can enjoy four small berths and a single bathroom. Fuel and water tanks are certainly not conceived for long cruises: just 76 liters of water and 96 liters of gasoline.

This 42′ boat wants, in fact, to be an advanced daysailer for pleasant trips. Interiors are entirely dominated by a typical British style, where white is the preeminent colour, accompanied by hardwood.
