It was an emotion-filled evening the one held at the headquarters of FIM, Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi; an evening held to celebrate, on the one hand, the work done so far with the construction of the magnificent FIM 340 Regina and FIM 470 REGINA, but also, and above all, to launch the new FIM 420 Regina.
FIM, a shipyard from Bergamo that makes Made in Italy its greatest strength, through design and construction developed with the most important and renowned artisans in the industry, despite a relatively recent history (it was in fact officially born in 2019), has already gained the market’s favor, proving to be a major player in the boating industry.
Passion, innovation, quality and commitment have ensured that already from the first boat presented on the market, the 340 Regina, the shipyard has enjoyed a huge success that repays the efforts of the founding partners Corrado Piccinelli and Manuela Barcella as well as Vannis Marchi, an important investor partner co-founder of the well-known fashion brand Liu Jo, who supports the shipyard’s choices with business wisdom and refined aesthetic taste.
FIM 340 Regina was the yard’s calling card, a boat that is ultra-customizable in every aspect, from colors to leathers, from woods to furnishings. With enviable liveability and comfort on board, combined with an absolutely sporty spirit, FIM 340 Regina proved in our sea trial to be truly a surprise: fast, stable but above all fun, she amazed us with the perfect synthesis of power and maneuverability, but not only that. Her luxurious, modular interior is incredibly spacious, and the possibility of customizing her to one’s taste certainly cannot go unnoticed.
Her success was so remarkable that shortly afterwards the yard launched FIM 470 Regina, what we might call her big sister, with a distinct family feeling that can be seen right from the start: at 15.10 meters and a beam of 4.40 meters, her spaces are absolutely enviable.
There are so many aspects that characterize her, from a unique bow and a movable sunbathing area that leaves room for a central pool, to top-notch finishes and truly important spaces designed with obsessive care. In the test we carried out at the Marina di Varazze then she was truly impressive.
Powerful and absolutely stable, we tackled a decidedly rough sea with level waves, stressing her as much as possible, or rather, trying to do so, because her responses were always clean thanks to her hull capable of cutting through even the most challenging waves and a power that, despite the rough sea made us touch 35 knots. To sum up, “the comfort of a yacht, the agility of a watercraft.”
These two sensational boats were the prelude to the project that will soon come to life, presented precisely in the evening in which The International Yachting Media also participated with great enthusiasm, to catch a preview of as many secrets as possible of this new model that was born from the market demand to have a unit that was somewhere between the 340 and the 470.
What we can anticipate is that it will be an absolutely innovative model, of which the first photographic renders will be released any day now. As FIM has accustomed us to, light will take center stage and promises to flood every room. It will be spacious, customizable, modular, and as the FIM line has taught us to appreciate by now, absolutely fast and gritty on the water.
The FIM 420 Regina will bring with it many technical innovations, but to fully appreciate them we have to wait for the next International Boat Shows, because currently the reserve is still at the top level.
What is certain at the moment, and the event organized by FIM was yet another proof of this, is that this shipyard has just begun to amaze us: we just have to wait for this new challenge, knowing that testing this latest gem will be a real blast. As always, we will keep you updated.
