Someone call it Iron Man, others compare it with the legendary steel Jeeg Robot. What’s certain is that it doesn’t go unnoticed. The new Honda outboard, exhibited in the stand of the Japanese company at the Miami International Boat Show, is really catching the attention and curiosity of many visitors. Such were the intentions of the manufacturer, when the Design Group engineers decided to embark on this extraordinary adventure.
Honda declares that design is clearly inspired by the Nsx, a car sold under the Acura brand in the USA and the Honda one in most other countries.
For the moment, it’s just a design object. The casing exhibited in Miami has indeed no engine. However, the new concept could be the new Honda outboard of the future.
“First – explained Honda speakers during the official presentation in Miami – our designers worked on some sketches and, later, they transferred them into some digital modelling programmes to create the right engine sizes”.
As regards the physical features of the new concept, what is most striking is height, undoubtedly higher than conventional engines.
But, in addition to the exterior elements, the new outboard concept should ensure excellent aerodynamics, at least according to Honda intentions.
Finally, always according to what claimed by the Japanese company, the outboard could be available in different colours according to “the customer’s lifestyle”, probably like cars and bikes.
We personally are more inclined to join Iron Man’s fans without forgetting the numerous references to the Nsx, such as colours, the honeycomb mesh of the cooling chambers, the lines recalling a curve blade, the general sporty lines.
For the time being, Honda declares it won’t apply this new style to its products. But it doesn’t rule it out. Everything will depend on the response of the public and on the results of the polls the Japanese manufacturer will take amongst its customers and potential buyers.
If the reaction is positive, what we saw at the Miami Boat Show could be the Honda style of the future. And some among insiders swerve that a future 300 HP engine will have Iron Man’s mask very soon.
