Moments of panic yesterday in the Gulf of Naples, where a hydrofoil with hundred of passengers aboard crashes into a yacht.
The accident seems to have occurred a few miles away from Molo Beverello. The two crafts involved were the “Capri Jet” owned by Navigazione Libera del Golfo and a private motoryacht.
The hydrofoil to Naples left from Capri at 09:35 pm. During the crossing, there was a violent collision against a Pershing yacht sailing in the opposite direction. Both boats sustained serious damages, as inevitably expected for a sea accident like this.
Reasons for the accident are still unknown, probably a yacht driver’s distraction.
According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno reports, no one got injured and rescue teams arrived promptly. Immediately after the impact, the Coastal Guard and a doctor indeed arrived to check the health status of all passengers.
According to witnesses, collision provoked much panic among the hydrofoil passengers. Safety operations were successfully carried out and all passengers were invited to put on lifejackets since, after the collision, the fear of a leak was concrete.
The episode could have had an even worse ending. Fortunately, the accident was faced with extreme calm by a very experienced crew.
