SPECTACULAR LAUNCH FOR THE NEW ICE CAT 61, THE LARGEST CATAMARAN NEVER BUILT IN ITALY

The Ice Cat 61 is a boat destined to “break through” on the market , as confirmed by her departure from the shipyard when, because of her size, as planned, a wall was knocked down to get her out.

Equally spectacular was the transport from Salvirola to the port of Cremona where she touched the water for the first time before the final river route to Ravenna, where the boat finally sailed off.

With an overall length of 18.60 metres, the latest creation of the Italian company is the largest catamaran never built in Italy.

Since her construction, the Ice Cat 61 demonstrates her will to go overboard. The designer Enrico Contras, who has already designed Mattia catamarans, has collaborated with Ice Yachts to provide this new model with streamline advanced lines.

Lightweight and hull resistance are the key elements of this boat where modern technologies, including epoxy resin and hybrid glass-carbon fibers, result in a fast easily-maneuverable product whose size and power enable the sail area to engender apparent wind and increase the top speed.

The catamaran can indeed travel up to 25 knots. Under power, two 80 hp engines deliver a top speed of 13.5 knots.

According to his needs, the owner can even ask for a hybrid, diesel or electric propulsion system.

The Ice Cat 61 also offers spacious volumes and great comfort thanks to a living area in the bow and large interiors. Remarkable is the cockpit, positioned on the same level than the dinette.

Equipped with a carbon mast, the sail area is easy to managed. The mainsheet and its carriage, as well as the self-tacking solent, can be served by an electric motor for an easier mainsail setting.

The Salvirola-based company is also developing a Full Carbon version of the Ice Cat 61 with advanced foils to fly on the water at higher speed.

Particularly beautiful is the scimitar-shaped bow that, now we know it, didn’t help the Cat to go out of the shed…
