Itacatamarans: the Ita 14.99 lands at the Venice Boat Show

Itacatamarans debuts at the Venice Boat Show with the Ita 14.99, the electric catamaran with sailing performance

Anyone who thinks that a sailor at the helm of a catamaran has to say goodbye to performance is mistaken, or maybe has never climbed on board the Ita 14.99, the flagship of Itacatamarans. The Italian shipyard, based in Verona, has put on  a lot of miles since 2017.

Born as a promising start-up, the young Italian brand has gradually established itself on the international nautical market, winning the title of Multihull of the Year 2020 awarded by Voile Magazine at the Paris Boat Show, as well as being nominated for the British Yachting Award in the Multhulls category in 2019.

The feature particularly appreciated by the world press and by the owners who have chosen the Ita 14.99 lies in the perfect combination of performance and class. A mantra that, since the beginning, has dictated the construction rules of Itacatamarans.

“Our shipyard was created with the aim of moving away from the French branch and creating a catamaran inspired by elegance and comfort, without however sacrificing sailing performance“, says Emanuele Caprini, CEO of Itacatamarans Srl. “This is why our reference customers are demanding owners who, like us, love fast, high-performance boats that are also beautiful and have a Made in Italy style.

“Our team is made up of professionals who have raced at an international level, mainly from the tradition of sport monohulls– explains Emilio Caprini – The model we have created, the Ita 14.99, and of which we are about to finish the 6th unit, is a catamaran designed for those who love sailing. While the technical owner chooses the 14.99 because he wants to close the angle to 35 degrees, something that would be difficult to do with a classic catamaran, or because he wants to reach the high speeds that our model is capable of, the owner’s companion is looking for comfort and focuses on the furnishings and fabrics: we always have a special eye on aesthetics and design, which, on the Ita 14.99, is refined and functional.

Another theme close to Itacatamarans’s heart is environmental sustainability, a philosophy that has been vigorously pursued and culminates in the innovative solutions adopted on the 14.99, assisted by a brand that produces recyclable sails and powered by an electric engine from Oceanvolt, a Finnish brand specialized in eco-friendly propulsion with which Itacatamarans has formed a winning partnership.

The lithium batteries are recharged while sailing through the same propellers and a system of solar panels working in parallel to generate the necessary power.

Furthermore, the Ita 14.99 is equipped with a Schenker watermaker that uses the Energy Recovery System, a brand-new patented device capable of amplifying the pressure of normal low-pressure pumps and recovering all the hydraulic energy returning from the membranes, allowing a reduction in electricity consumption of up to 80%.

In addition to the ecological aspect, there is also a whole issue relating to the construction complexity of a catamaran with great techno-practical virtues and generous volumes.

“The 14.99 is a boat made entirely of epoxy and vacuum infused resin with carbon reinforcements, designed to be steered both solo and with a small crew. The whole boat, in fact, can be controlled from the cockpit without having to go to the mast to make any further adjustments. It’s also a custom boat: it’s important for us to give the owner a voice and tailor a catamaran to suit him. We’re planning to build the 17.99 because the market is suggesting an even more spacious model and, in the meantime, we’re developing the restyling of the existing model, which is currently with two double cabins in the stern, a cabin in the bow and two heads with separate shower cubicles“.

Itacatamarans will make its debut at the 2nd edition of the Venice Boat Show, from Saturday May 29th to Sunday June 6th, exhibiting the 14.99 with aluminium mast. This is the shipyard’s absolute debut at an Italian boat show, after having taken part in the French events in La Grand Motte and Cannes, where it received excellent feedback from the public and the critics.

“We’re certain that the magnificent setting of the Arsenale will also bring prestige to our catamaran”, concludes Emilio Caprini. The appoint is therefore in the Lagoon, where the Ita 14.99 will show everyone that Made in Italy is capable of.
