Magazzù, the iconic MX-11 and MX-13 coupes return to Cannes and Genoa

Magazzù sets off to conquer the Cannes (September 7-12) and Genoa (September 16-21) boat shows with the flagship inflatable boats of Made in Italy excellence. This year’s iconic models will be the MX-11 Coupé and the MX-13 Gran Coupé which, as we know and the company confirms, “are already in production”.

The Palermo-headquartered shipyard is renowned for the craftsmanship of its Maxi Ribs, which carry within them a nautical tradition inherited from Prof. Alfredo Magazzù, founder of the company over 50 years ago, when he made his fortune with his Alicudi motorsailer, chosen by no less than 140 owners. Going back in time, Magazzù has also collaborated with other famous shipyards, one of them being Baglietto, for which it designed the Surfing TRIS 75, a 21-metre yacht. Another project completed between the 1980s and 1990s was the Fast Ferry, a boat designed to transport passengers and vehicles. For the Rodriguez shipyard, Magazzù designed the “Monostab”, a monohull stabilized by a special wing system.

Today, the shipyard is run by the family’s second generation, the siblings Tina and Renato, who preside over the company together with Claudio Magazzù, an aeronautical engineer. It is no coincidence that behind every hull built in the yard is a scientific study that carefully focuses on performance and boat safety.

As for the nautical architecture, it is summed up in designs that give Magazzù yachts that “pure” Mediterranean essence, which is also a distinctive feature of the company’s entire philosophy. One of the shipyard’s distinguishing features is the choice of fine materials. The teak-finished deck embellishes the boat, the attention to detail, the dynamic and sporty lines make for a desirable yacht that has already been chosen by many famous people.

The MX-11 Coupé that will be exhibited at the Cannes Yachting Festival is a cabin cruiser. Inside, there is no shortage of sophisticated details, such as the ceramic sink in the graceful service. Velvety materials are offered in neutral colour combinations – as we’ve seen – but the option is highly customizable, going for colours that are accentuated by natural light during the day thanks to a porthole in the bow.

Nautical evolution doesn’t stop with the quest for luxury because, at Magazzù, the use of nautical engineering takes over, with a focus on “simplicity of manoeuvre, performance and electronics“, and with the aim of offering captains an undoubtedly satisfying sailing experience. A skill that has been proven by our journalists in numerous sea trials of these high-class vessels.

MX-11 Coupé in Cannes and Genoa at Booth H221

The MX-11 Coupé will be moored in Genoa at booth H221, occupying the stretch of water of quay “H” with a maximum beam of 3.80 metres and a length of 11 metres. In Cannes, Magazzù will be displaying the same model in the PAN 057 area of the Pantiero pier. This model is powered by twin inboard engines (petrol or diesel) or, alternatively, two outboard engines, which would partially sacrifice the stern beach area, which deserves to be fully enjoyed. Special feature: the engine side ventilation grilles are made of stainless steel and the Magazzù logo stands out between the holes.

Magazzù hull steps for better planing performance

This high-class Maxi Ribs boasts a particular hull, whose “steps” are so deep as to guarantee particularly favourable plaining conditions.

The hull steps is an engineering gem that Magazzùwas the first to choose, ahead of its competitors. As explained, the hull steps allow for the creation of air cushions in the hull’s empty transversal sections, useful for cushioning the landing after a wave. It is the hydrodynamics that stand out in the design of this ‘inflatable’ which gives excellent directionality and manoeuvrability without ever tiring those at the helm, even on the longest cruises.

As far as spaces are concerned, the MX-11 Coupé offers generous sundecks fore and aft; the central part of the helm station is sheltered by a T-Top; in front of the controls there are two ultra-refined yet fold-down armchairs which conceal the cocktail cabinet inside.

Magazzù MX-13 Gran Coupé in Cannes and Genoa

Let’s call it an “icon of luxury”. This 13.30 metre Maxi-Rib says it all just by looking at it, because beauty evolves in Magazzù adding to it as surprisingly as the water of the wave on the water of the sea.

Put to the test – you can find our 200-mile sea trial here – tMX-13 Gran Coupé shows extremely technical characteristics, which are combined with the proverbial stepped hull that copes well with the rough sea. Not surprisingly, “weight balance and waterline design” give the boat a trim that prevents the bow from lifting too much.

In addition to the boat balance, there is an incredible, almost irrational, acceleration that pushes the Maxi-Rib up to 46 knots of maximum speed – depending on the engine option, of course – but turns are always stable and safe. The on-board routine is designed for nautical well-being. The interiors feature decorations and qualities that convey a luxury typical of Magazzù and pervaded by Mediterranean marine taste. The dinette is large with a convertible corner sofa to starboard. There is a galley in addition to the one outside on deck. The head with separated shower cubicle, instead, is at the bow. Then, the master cabin, where the scene is set for a king-sized bed. The profiles of the deckhouse, which is well-raised, feature two windowed moustaches that give ample light to the interiors. The dashboard is ultra-modern and covered by a t-top, but that’s not all, as there is an electrically operated telescopic awning to provide shade right up to the aft sundeck. The

MX-13 Gran Coupé will be put on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival, booth PAN057, and at the Genoa Boat Show, quay H221. Visitors will have the opportunity to lay their eyes on these nautical jewels in which innovation is an integral part together with seaworthiness and unquestionable beauty.
