When we tested her last December, her sailing performances astonished us so much that we defined her as the “boat which sails faster than wind”.
Her debut at the Mylius Cup, a sailing race included in the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, hasn’t let us down. The Oscar 3, the new Mylius 65 FD, has indeed won the competion.
The boat, sponsored by the Cala dei Medici Yacht Club, was skippered by Aldo Parisotto – who has come back home with a new Rolex Submarine watch on his wrist – supported by Daniele Cassinari at the mainsail and Alessio Razeto (navigator).
The 60-footer “Fra Diavolo”, sponsored by the Gaeta Yacht Club and skippered by Vincenzo Addessi and Paolo Scutellaro, came second while the third step of the podium was gained by the 50-footer “Ars Una” owned by Rocchi-Biscarini and sponsored by ASD Granlasco. The hard-fought inshore races have covered a stretch of sea of about 15 miles.
On the first day, adverse weather conditions and a strong 30-knot sirocco forced organizers to cancel races. However, some teams decided to make some speed tests, as for the case of the two Fra Diavolo and Sud 60-footers.
Everything was fine on the second day, when a fresh 15-knot wind progessively weakened during the day. Few miles off Capri, in an area where wind conditions were particularly variable, the Oscar 3 managed to get the best of the Fra Diavolo and secure the victory.
As mentioned above, the third place was gained by the Ars Una, followed by Riccardo Ciciriello’s Testacuore and Maurits Van Oranje’s Sud. Unlike the previous day, the outcome of the race was immediately evident from the very first minutes, when the Oscar 3 took advantage of a west wind of about 10-12 knots to show all her strength near Capri sailing before Fra Diavolo, SUD and Ars Una.
As usual for the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, which includes the Mylius Cup, the whole sailing week was rich of sports and social events. On Wednesday night, all teams joined a cocktail party in the beautiful Giardini di Augusto (August’s Gardens) overlooking the popular Capri’s stacks. On Thursday night, the whole Mylius’ family ( owners, crew and friends) took part to an exclusive event held at “La Palma” hotel. On Friday night, the glamorous Rolex Dinner was held at Capri’s famous Quisisana Hotel with guests like Gaddo della Gherardesca, live music by Serena Autieri and a fireworks display.
Finally, on Saturday night, the prize giving ceremony in Capri’s famous Piazzetta was joyful and colourful, thanks to folk music and dancing provided Capri’s own Scialapopolo group. The final event in this wonderful regatta was an evening of dancing offered at Capri’s most famous club, Amena e Core.
