Nox Oceani triumphs at the RS21 under 23 national circuit
Great triumph for the Nox Oceani team at the RS21 under 23 national circuit. The sailing team, based at the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club in Sardinia, claimed victory in the circuit after the regatta in Riva del Garda and is now ready and determined to face the biggest challenge yet: the Innovative Sailing World Championship, which began on September 4th and will run until September 7th in the Gulf of Cugnana, Olbia.
Participation in all stages of the RS21 Italian Class circuit, along with their consistent presence on the podium, rewarded the young athletes of Nox Oceani, coached by Camillo Zucconi. In the Garda stage, which was also valid for the Italian championship title, the Nox Oceani team won the silver medal in the Under 23 category, just a few points behind first place. During the series of races on Lake Garda, a collision with a boat that failed to give way compromised the final result. Despite this minor setback, the team returned to Sardinia with a string of positive results. In fact, in addition to winning the circuit and securing second place in the championship, they also claimed third place in the overall circuit standings and fourth place in the championship among the Corinthians.
“The victory in the Under 23 category – explains coach Zucconi – is the result of continuous work that still needs improvement. The crew is now ready to compete in the upcoming Innovative Sailing Championship in Porto Rotondo with the team race format, an event we’ve been looking forward to for a long time”.
The Innovative Sailing World Championship, promoted by the Department of Tourism, Handicraft, and Commerce of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, will see teams from all over the world competing in the team race format. It’s a very ambitious challenge for the Nox Oceani team, but they arrive at the regatta with the boost of their victory in Riva del Garda.
As for the Innovative Sailing World Championship, this is a very special initiative, eagerly awaited by all boating enthusiasts. Camillo Zucconi, who is also the sports director of the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club in addition to being the coach of the Nox Oceani team, confirms this and explains the structure of the competition: “The Innovative Sailing World Championship is an ambitious project that we have passionately developed over the past few months. It is a regatta that will be very similar to the America’s Cup match race, but instead of one-on-one, it will be two-on-two. Therefore, it will be important not only to know the racing tactics but also to think as a team, helping teammates with continuous cover through tacks and gybes. We are sure it will be a great show, especially for the audience who will want to enjoy the races from land or sea. Our team is ready, and the significant results achieved this past weekend in Riva del Garda are very promising.”
The world event can be followed live, with the opportunity to participate in talks on innovation and sustainability, or through the Yacht Club’s digital channels and on Radiolina. The physical event will take place at the Blue Village, in the square in front of the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club.
