Osmosea watermakers: the freedom of having fresh water on board at all times
One of the things that you need to keep most under control when on board is unquestionably the amount of fresh water available. Osmosea knows this well. The Sicilian watermaker and water treatment plant company, in fact, successfully promotes installations all over the world to make you independent from the water supply in port, and more.
For more than 15 years, Osmosea has been developing, manufacturing and marketing reverse osmosis watermakers for marine, domestic and industrial use. The key to the success of the Marsala (TP)-based company is primarily to be found in the deep attention to the customer, both during sales and after-sales service. What made a big difference right from the start was the idea of creating real custom systems according to the needs of individual boats and owners; this gave Osmosea the opportunity to enter markets otherwise inaccessible with “standard” productions.
“To date, Osmosea operates throughout Europe and in several world markets, it is one of the few realities in the boating world that is able to supply and meet the demand of individuals, shipyards, installers for any type of system: we are able to provide this service for both 30-foot boats and 40/50-meter megayachts – says Mario Alagna, owner of Osmosea together with Carlo Zerilli. – This is due to the fact that from the beginning we focused on custom service and did this to be independent from third parties, in fact we do in-house machining, electronics, and as much as we can in-house. We produce systems of all kinds, especially energy recovery systems for small boats, but also traditional systems for mega yachts.“
The company’s production is very wide-ranging: Osmosea produces not only watermakers but also complete systems for converting and purifying fresh water into drinking water, which can be drunk directly from tanks, almost completely eliminating the use of plastic on board. This small system, which can be installed on any type of boat, generally comes with the purchase of the traditional or energy recovery watermaker, but can also be purchased individually.
The water purification system is a mini system that filters the water in the tank 3 times, removing any odor or impurities and also any chlorine that may be present, if a tank disinfection cycle had been done, for example. This special system, however, not only purifies the water but also replenishes it with salts such as Calcium and Magnesium that the watermaker, in order to produce fresh water from the sea, normally removes. This way, the water you will drink is not distilled water but real clean water with an alkaline pH above 7, comparable in physical and chemical-biological characteristics to bottled water.
In addition to reintroducing mineral salts, which are important for our health, the Purificator 300 LED completely disinfects from viruses, fungi, mold and bacteria the water that comes through the tap (provided) thanks to a special UV LED lamp. This particular LED, manufactured in Canada, turns on immediately when the tap is opened and turns off as soon as the water is turned off, instantly eliminating every single parasite as it passes through.
Osmosea’s production also includes a more advanced system called Osmoboat, a reverse osmosis water purifier that has the same function as the classic purifiers, but offers more options: the Osmoboat Slim model allows for ambient temperature water, and Osmoboat Ice produces ambient, cold and sparkling water instead. The range also includes the Classic and Evo models, generator-powered watermakers with outputs of up to 3,000 l/h.
Another system produced by the Sicilian company is the dock water treatment system, which makes it possible to always obtain clean, lime-free water with few salts, which is also useful for washing the boat without leaving halos, which is why it is also often used for swimming pools and jacuzzis of large yachts.
With NEW 12 and NEW 12S, the energy-saving watermakers save about 80% of power and are suitable for small to medium-sized boats. The range also includes the Classic and Evo models, watermakers powered by a generator, with flow rates of up to 3,000 l/h.
It is also possible to install the DUO, i.e., a system composed of 2 watermakers (which occupies little more space than a single watermaker) and allows to choose a different type of power supply (12/24V or 230V), and provides the security of having a backup system even in case of failure, and finally, also allowing to adjust a different amount of production between the two watermakers, adapting it to various needs.
The Sicilian company’s products are already highly appreciated (and installed) around the globe, which is why Osmosea is aiming to participate in the most important international boat shows, making its first debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and then attending METS next November, as well as Boot in Düsseldorf in January 2024, starting the show season again in the spring of 2024.
