Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive, a breath-taking test

The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive is the new RIB that will be officially presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 and will complete the range offered by the shipyard, which starts with the Cayman One, a 3.65-meter tender, and goes up to the Cayman 45 Cruiser (13.90 m).

The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive measures 10.20 meters in length and is positioned between the Cayman 28.0 and the Cayman 35.0. We went to Soverato, the headquarters of Ranieri International, where the shipyard carries our its tests at the storage facility adjacent to the sea, not far from the production site, for a complete sea trial.

Exteriors

Sporty appearance and a twin-stepped hull that further reduce the wetted surface. A prominent roll bar that supports an extremely aerodynamic t-top, enhancing the RIB’s sporty line even more. These are the key external features of the latest Ranieri’s addition.

At the stern, the two side passages are sufficiently wide, allowing for good movement thanks also to the space created between the sofa and the engine compartment. A central sofa separates the stern from the cockpit; beneath it is a storage compartment housing all the battery disconnects and various circuit breakers for the onboard systems. From here, easy access is also provided to the bilge pump and fuel filter.

On the stern sides, two additional seats have been incorporated, allowing five people to sit comfortably and, if a table is installed, to dine in total comfort.

A large console provides excellent visibility, both while cruising at sea and during docking maneuvers. The helm station is protected by a large windshield, and the seat with three folding cushions offers enough space for three people.
At the bow of the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive, there is a sofa facing forward and a spacious sunbathing area, thanks to the fact that the bow roller is located within a storage compartment, concealed by an extension of the upholstery.

Interior

Access to the cabin is quite convenient via a sliding door on the left side. Descending four steps, you find yourself in a small central hallway. On the left, the electrical control panel is installed, which can be activated with a personalized card. The bed is of good size, as is the bathroom located on the starboard side of the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive. The central porthole, along with the two side portholes, provides good lighting and, above all, excellent ventilation.

Sea Trial

The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive is docked at the pier and is equipped with two Mercury 300 V8 engines, which we can’t wait to test. Today, the sea is slightly choppy, but fortunately, the wind is coming from land, so even though we have winds exceeding 18 knots, the waves are just over half a meter. We leave the dock with 288 liters of fuel and zero liters of water in the tanks, with five people on board.

Even with minimal throttle, the two Mercury engines push the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive forward. At 600 RPM, we are doing three knots and consuming 2.7 liters per hour. I decide to head offshore and let the wind be at my back.

The tubes perform very well on the water, and stability is good. I immediately push the engines to their maximum, and within seconds, we are at 3500 RPM, reaching 28 knots, with fuel consumption rising to 30 liters per hour. I maintain this speed, which I would consider the cruising speed for the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive. The wake is clean, and stability is excellent, even during turns, which I perform without reducing throttle. I point the bow into the wind and head back towards shore, taking the waves head-on. The hull responds very well; there is no pitching, and I accelerate further to reach maximum speed. At 6000 RPM, we achieve 47.9 knots, with fuel consumption rising to 92 liters per hour. The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive cuts through the water and maintains perfect trim without needing much correction with the steering wheel.

I reduce speed to find the minimum planning speed, which is 2500 RPM at 12 knots, with consumption around 18 liters per hour.

I speed up again to around 28 knots to perform a few turns. I try to challenge the hull with sharp and sudden turns, but despite the constant course changes, the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive impresses me with how it handles the sea. The hull works very well, the steering is smooth, and the T-Top is really solid, providing a great sense of protection.
