Sea Trial
The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive is docked at the pier and is equipped with two Mercury 300 V8 engines, which we can’t wait to test. Today, the sea is slightly choppy, but fortunately, the wind is coming from land, so even though we have winds exceeding 18 knots, the waves are just over half a meter. We leave the dock with 288 liters of fuel and zero liters of water in the tanks, with five people on board.
Even with minimal throttle, the two Mercury engines push the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive forward. At 600 RPM, we are doing three knots and consuming 2.7 liters per hour. I decide to head offshore and let the wind be at my back.
The tubes perform very well on the water, and stability is good. I immediately push the engines to their maximum, and within seconds, we are at 3500 RPM, reaching 28 knots, with fuel consumption rising to 30 liters per hour. I maintain this speed, which I would consider the cruising speed for the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive. The wake is clean, and stability is excellent, even during turns, which I perform without reducing throttle. I point the bow into the wind and head back towards shore, taking the waves head-on. The hull responds very well; there is no pitching, and I accelerate further to reach maximum speed. At 6000 RPM, we achieve 47.9 knots, with fuel consumption rising to 92 liters per hour. The Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive cuts through the water and maintains perfect trim without needing much correction with the steering wheel.
I reduce speed to find the minimum planning speed, which is 2500 RPM at 12 knots, with consumption around 18 liters per hour.
I speed up again to around 28 knots to perform a few turns. I try to challenge the hull with sharp and sudden turns, but despite the constant course changes, the Ranieri Cayman 33.0 Executive impresses me with how it handles the sea. The hull works very well, the steering is smooth, and the T-Top is really solid, providing a great sense of protection.
