Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top: flying at 50 Knots with the outboard version

Fast and elegant—these are the two adjectives that best describe the new Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top, which, exclusively for The International Yachting Media, we had the chance to test in its outboard version.

Equipped for the occasion with a pair of stunning Mercury Verado V10 350 engines, this maxi-rib makes full use of the 700 horsepower provided by this setup. But let’s go step by step and see how it went.

Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top Sea Trial

We leave Marina di Verbella early in the morning; the sun is low on the water but it’s already quite warm. I give it a bit of throttle, and even while staying within the speed limits of this stretch of the lake, the airflow coming from the side offers a bit of relief at already 7-8 knots. This is one of the reasons wht I prefer the T-Top version over the full Hard-Top, which, although very effective, is certainly a bit less “summery” compared to the version we’re testing today.

After about ten minutes, once we reach the end of the speed-limited zone and with the engines warmed up, I have no reason to hold back and open the throttle wide. The acceleration is powerful, and the RIB darts forward as the speed climbs rapidly. In the blink of an eye, we’re already past 40 knots; then the acceleration becomes more “normal” as the Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top continues to accelerate, topping out the GPS at just over 50.3 knots.

I continue to drive at full throttle as the water rushes swiftly beneath the hull. The trim is perfect; the bow just skims the surface in what is essentially a flawless plane. Without slowing down, I put the Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top into a wide turn, and even at 50 knots, this maxi-RIB performs the maneuver with no hesitation.

I slow down, bring the speed to around 30 knots, and make a sharp turn. The Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top leans into the turn and continues without losing grip, as if it were glued to an imaginary circular route, which cranks up the adrenaline and fun to the highest levels. I counter-turn, and the boat responds immediately, displaying a sporty responsiveness I didn’t know was possible. I eventually reach my own wake, and despite its considerable height, the maxi-RIB slices through the waves with ease, and by now, it’s clear that I’m really impressed with this boat.
In everyday use, the Scanner 1100 T-Top, despite its exhilarating performance just described, offers a lot for those who want it for daily outings or for extended cruises, thanks to the comfort it provides even at low and moderate speeds.

Indeed, this maxi-RIB reaches a plane at just 10 knots, then it lifts off the water and increases its speed without needing to “add more throttle” up to 13/14 knots. From this point on, the ride is smooth and the comfort level is very high. On long trips, you can cruise economically at around 30 knots, where, thanks to its gliding capabilities, it consumes about 3 liters of fuel per nautical mile—really low for such a well-equipped and refined vessel. The credit likely goes to the hull, which is evidently very well designed.

The Scanner Envy 1100 T-Top in detail

The level of finish is both evident and visible. The extensive use of fiberglass, covered with a high-quality gelcoat, slightly elevates the boat’s structure above the tubulars. This design choice not only creates more internal space but also offers a more refined aesthetic.

This is clearly demonstrated by the two large sunbathing areas, both at the bow and the stern, which are typically found on significantly larger boats. The entire boat can be shaded with stylish and practical perforated covers and carbon fiber poles.

The T-Top area features a large U-shaped sofa at the stern, from which you can easily reach the central unit housing the kitchen and two large refrigerators. Forward is the helm station, which, equipped with two side-by-side seats, is spacious, welcoming, and includes a dashboard capable of accommodating all the latest-generation electronics that an owner might desire.
Completing the picture of this exceptional vessel is a cabin with a double bed, a bathroom, a sink, and storage cabinets and compartments, offering a surprisingly ample storage space for an eleven-meter boat.
