The new D 650 is part of the new series by Selva, in the middle between 2-metre-long-tenders and the 9-6-metre-long-flagship of the Evolution Series (12 models). Her official name is Evolution Special Line D.650 DS. On the basis of an already efficient and tested bottom of the orginal version, innovations concern the deck. First of all the astern sunbathing area, certainly bigger than in the original version (which has the traditional bench): it is, in fact, 107 x 106 cm. With the backboard inclined abaft, all surface is free; if tilted forward, it becomes an essential backboard for passengers.
The Mediterranean soul of Selva 650 is confirmed by the sizes of the fore sunbathing area, which, with the specific extensions and pillows, reaches a length of 180 cm and a width of 140. Below it, there is the traditional V-shaped locker, provided with small gas pistons and a good internal finishing, ideal to stow the extensions of the sunbathing area. The anchor and chain peak is very accessible.
As regards the consolle, there is a robust handrail along all the windscreen and a comfortable stand-up pilot seat. All tools are easy to read and the lever is well-located. All in all, D 650 has a classic but functional layout and its strengths certainly include all the space to stow objects and luggage, both under the fore sunbathing area and below the other seats.
Finishings are excellent in relation to the final price and colour blends: simple, elegant and a little sporting, in line with the boat’s philosophy and different from the general trend using exaggerated colours.
We tested D 650 combined with a Killer Whale 150 HP XSR version (the standard engine is a Yamaha, partner of Selva for a long time). So, we had a very powerful boat on a totally flat sea. This allowed us to reach a maximum speed of 42 knots and a cruising one of 32 knots at 45000 revolutions, 24 knots at 3500 revolutions.
The boat enjoys a good hull-tubes interaction: tubes, in fact, ensure an excellent static stability and precise trajectories when moving.
