Today Peschiera del Garda offers a postcard-perfect view and welcomes us to thoroughly test the latest addition to Sessa Marine range, the C47 Yacht Line.
It is a project signed by CentroStileDesign, heir and evolution of Sessa best seller, the C44. 14.27 meters long and 4.39 meters wide, the Sessa C47 is a sporty coupé with sleek, sporty lines and a very strong stylistic link with Sessa Marine’s flagship, the C68 Gullwing.
About the Sessa C47
The complete opening of the saloon towards the stern and total contact with the sea are the main strengths of this coupé which, through an opening window, completely overlooks the water surface. The cockpit with its folding teak table can be opened and is adjustable in height. The linear sofa for 6 people defines a comfortable guest area for convivial moments.
The kitchen unit, set against the glass, doubles up as a bar and is equipped with a sink, chopping board and barbecue plate. This solution allows to cook without smoking out the precious interiors. Furthermore, the cockpit offers two side technical areas equipped with mooring winches, good-sized stainless steel bollards and sturdy fairleads to further facilitate mooring manoeuvres.
Another plus of this Sessa C47 is the submersible stern platform which, by means of a hydraulic system, descends below the water level and allows both the launching and hauling of the tender mounted on saddles and a nive dive into the sea.
Fenders
All fenders can be stored in a large compartment closed by hatches in the transom.
Moving towards the bow, we walk along the two gangways, which are not very wide, but are nevertheless easy to navigate and safe due to the rails being at the right height.
The windows extend from the stern to the bow and terminate in the windscreen, which is sloping and sporty, made of two crystals with a central pillar, is sturdy and equipped with dual wipers.
One of the must-haves on a Mediterranean boat is the bow sundeck, which, on the Sessa C47, has three seats with height-adjustable backrests and a removable central cushion to allow the opening of the bow cabin skylight.
The details make all the difference: on both sides of the sundeck, stainless steelcup holders and audio speakers add a touch of class what invites the guests to relax. The bulwark jutting out to the outside leaves plenty of room on deck.
At the extreme bow, the technical area features an anchor winch with a barbotin for the drafts visibile on the deck, large section bollards and a deep and large chain hauler.
Sessa C47 interiors
The interiors are bright, spacious and ainimated by geometries, materials and colours that make every detail interesting and new. The saloon is certainly characterized by the opening towards the cockpit, but also by the side windows that visually connect with the surrounding panorama, in the extreme comfort of a real yacht.
This convivial area is surprising: the sofa corner is accompanied by an opening table and the cushion towards the bow slides to the side on sliding rails to create an extra place at the head of the table. The galley/living area on the starboard side is just the right size and offers everything you need: induction hob, corner sink, large worktops, combined oven and fridge and the inevitable wine cellar in the cabinet behind the helm seats.
The colour of the grey laminated wood of the furniture contrasts with the natural colour of the wall units, a stylish solution that breaks up the monotony. The two huge smoked glass windows in the ceiling filter the natural light so that the sun does not disturb and heat the room too much.
The helm station is compact and rational: two multifunctional maps stand out in the middle, and the driving position is comfortable with footrest, two-seat sofa and electrically opening window.
On the opposite side, in the living room cabinet, there is a well-organized plate compartment and an electrically operated television. Descending the central staircase, we discover right interiors that make good use of the volumes: the two twin-bedded guest cabins are almost identical: in one, a bed can be moved to create a double bed, thus offering a smart and versatile solution. Both have unusually large windows overlooking the sea, with opening portholes.
The shared head is quite large and has a separate shower cubicle: the solution of fitting a drop-down bench top above the WC in the shower is not new but very practical. Aesthetics are also very much in evidence in the head, with a black overhead washbasin creating an elegant eye-catcher. The natural soft colurs in the bow master cabin make for a cosy atmosphere: the double bed is high with drawers, side shelves and wardrobe. The two windows help to maintain the contact with the surrounding environment that characterizes the whole boat. The maste cabin is also equipped with a private head with separate shower. Last but not least, the engine room is neat and tidy, with just the right amount of space for checking and maintaing the systems.
Sessa C47 Sea Trial
Today, the only wave encountered are the self-produced ones, on which the passage is smooth and without hull bumps, so when sailing you can feel a very pleasant smoothness of movement. Lateral stability is good, thanks to the considerable width of the boat. Tighter turns produce quite accentuated roll angles, but you never experience the feeling of instability that you sometimes get on sport boats. This is the Sessa C47 style. The hull is centred and there is no need to adjust the rudder when sailing in a straight line; when turning, the boat draws evolutions with precise trajectories, as if on rails. The two IPS 600 drives, mated to Volvo Penta D8 thrusters with 450 horsepower each, easily push the Sessa C47 to over 32 knots, but cruising speed is around 28 knots at 3500 rpm with an hourly consumption of 160 litres per hour in total.
Now, let’s take a look at her ability to sail at minimum planing speed: we measure 12.5 knots at 2,200 rpm with a very low conmsumption of just 60 l/h and exceptional comfort. The technology helps the yachtsman: the Volvo joystick manoevring system coupled with the IPS propulsion allows surgical and intuitive manoeuvres. A boat truly suitable for anyone.
The Sessa C47 stands out for her premium performance, good seaworthiness, habitability and balance between interiors and exteriors. A boat suitable for long-range cruising, stable and pleasant sailing.
