The winner of the exclusive list of the biggest yachts in the world is Azzam, with its 180 metres of length. It was built by Lurssen (Germany), which has other five boats in the first ten places of this particular hit-parade, and its construction required three years. It can seem like a long time, but it’s a real record for this kind of boats.
The shipbuilder may be German but the project is by the 100% Italian Nauta Design Studio of Milan, one of the best studio design. It has collaborated with brands like Southern Wind, Baltic, Advanced, Grand Soleil and Bénéteau, for the production of giant boats like this and other sailing and motor boats.
But, at the express request of its shipowner, we don’t know much about Azzam. Some photos have been published (it can’t go unnoticed, since it’s long as Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier) but there is no photo about interiors, whose design is by the French Studio of Christophe Leoni, probably in a early-XXth century empire style.
Azzam’s owner is Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and emir of Abu Dhabi with a of patrimony of about 20 billion dollars (his brother, Mansur bin Zayd Al Nahyan, is the president of Manchester City football team; his cousin, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, is the emir of Qatar and owner of PSG…so, a family that likes expensive toys).
But how much did Azzam cost? This is not sure but the price is said to be about 605 million dollars.
This amazing yacht, 20 metres wide, with seven decks and born in 2013, boasts another record: with a 31-knot-maximum speed, it’s the fastes boat of its category.
