Catamaran storage and restoration
Canet-en-Roussillon is the home of multihulls not only because Catana/Bali, one of the leaders in the sector, is based here, but also because there are hundreds of multihulls to be refitted or simply to be winterized.
A refit is not only the restoration of a boat, but also its refitting to make it suitable for other uses. This type of work is also very much in vogue in other sectors, such as the automotive industry. For example, a travel lift, 12 metres wide and with a potential lifting capacity of 200 tonnes, has been adapted to take boats with two or three hulls in and out of the water.
Mediterranean Refit Headquarters
In Canet-en-Roussillon, there are some thirty companies specializing in this activity, making it the headquarters of the refit sector in the Mediterranean.
Some thirty second-hand boats are expected at the entrance to the port, at the foot of the new ‘Oniria’ aquarium. This year, the organizers will set up, in parallel with the Boat Show, a forum dedicated to jobs in the nautical sector.
The initiative aims to meet the needs of this burgeoning market, which has generated a huge demand for human resources. It is yet another opportunity to share a passion for yachting and the sea.
