It’s only thanks to the quick reflexes of a woman and the prompt intervention of guard ship 813 of the Port Captaincy that nothing serious happens to the owner of the boat we can see in the pictures below.
It happened some minutes ago in Viareggio. A woman walking on the beach noticed the boat sailing with no control near the entrance of the harbour. She also noticed that something was wrong on the boat. Alarmed, she promptly called the Port Captaincy of Viareggio which has immediately sent its ships.
“Guard ship 813 reached the boat and it found its captain in an evident confused state, wounded to an eyebrow arch, and it rescued him immediately. The injured man has been brought to the hospital and he doesn’t seem to be in serious conditions” – says Dr. Federico Giorgi, Vice-Captain of the Port Captaincy of Viareggio. The fast intervention has avoided some worse consequences to the captain of the boat in trouble.
He is a French 60-year-old man, who sailed alone on his boat. Today, weather and sea conditions are not good in Viareggio. The sea is rough and wind blows up to 30 knots. Consequently, it is very difficult to sail in that area, especially because shallows and a sand bar can provoke some dangerous waves near the entrance of the harbour.
The boat finally beached on the foreshore of Viareggio
