X Shore Eelex 8000: is this minimalism “sustainable”?
Inexplicably (in our opinion) rewarded for her design, the X Shore Eelex 8000 is a truly particular 8-meter boat which certainly does not go unnoticed. Designed to deliver good performance and good seaworthiness, the hull envelops the boat with a very simple and linear design.
The Eelex 8000 unveils a strong reference to Scandinavian design which, used since the middle of the last century mainly in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and Denmark, is characterized by the constant search for a strong minimalism. Consequently, the X Shore Eelex 8000 is not a conventional day cruiser and you can realize that at first glance.
In the stern, the seating is simply composed of two seats that, despite being pleasant to the touch thanks to their wood and cork covering, engender some perplexity. Especially if we consider that the Eelex 8000 is presented as a boat suitable for everyone and for every use. Announced as the Tesla of yachting, at first glance, she does not prove to be suitable, for example, for those who want to enjoy the sea in total comfort, perhaps surrounded by a beautiful and comfortable environment.
This is why we think that any comparison with the Tesla (which, in addition to electric propulsion, is synonymous with luxury) is inappropriate.
The (strange) choice to equip the boat with seats of this kind is probably due to the need to reduce weight on board. It is possible to implement additional seats of the same type, both forward and aft, and slide them back and forth thanks to the two tracks on which they are mounted.
However, the fittings of the X Shore Eelex 8000 are easily customizable and allow the owner to organize the boat according to his needs. In addition to the seats, the owner can add an equally minimalist sun pad, designed to be practical and fast-to-install but definitely poorly sexy and uncomfortable.
Positioned in the middle of the boat, the hard top covers the steering console. The latter is modern and equipped with a 24-inch display. Even the pilot seat, made up of a simple wood panel, is quite spartan.
Performance
According to the manufacturer, the Eelex 8000 can reach a top speed of 40 knots with a range of over 2 hours at 25 knots. At lower speeds, the range can reach 100 miles.
Extraordinary for a full electric boats, it is however a performance we would like to be able to verify.
The boat is available with 90KWh or 120 KWh batteries, which can be charged on the dock or via supercharger stations. The recharging time would seem to vary between 8 and 12 hours, another performance that we would like to verify.
The new frontier of electric boats
The new boat of the Swedish shipyard allows to sail in total comfort, without the noise of powerful marine engines in the background and minimizing harmful emissions for the environment. The mission of the Konrad Bergstrom’ shipyard is in fact to encourage sustainable navigation, developing the technology and design suitable for creating 100% electric boats and encouraging the nautical industry to change.
Eelex 8000 is not a boat for everyone but represents an important step towards the electric revolution which the boating industry will have to be ready for. Her interiors, certainly not devoted to comfort, make her an extremely pragmatic day cruiser, a modular boat probably more suitable for sports activities like fishing, with little possibility of being used for short cruises with friends or family.
Currently on sale for EUR 199,000, the Eelax 8000 is probably the best option for all those who have already made electric boats a lifestyle choice.
